Have you ever felt a certain way and wanted to change it? Do you ever feel so nervous that you can't control yourself? It's no secret that emotions affect our development in society, and there's a way to control them, it's called emotional intelligence.
Emotional intelligence consists in recognizing, managing, and underdstanding your own emotions, as well as influencing the emotions od others.
So, in practical terms, emotional intelligence means being aware that your emotions drive your behavior and have an impact on people, either positive or negative, and learning how to manage those emotions especially when you are under preasure.
According to Daniel Goleman in his book "Emotional Intelligence - Why It Can Matter More Than IQ", there are five elements that define emotional intelligence:
1. Self-Awareness: this means understanding your emotions and not letting your feelings rule you.
2. Self-Regulation: this is the ability to control emotions and impulses.
3. Motivation: people with high degree of emotional intelligence are usually motivated.
4. Empathy: this means understanding and identifying the needs, wants, and viewpoints of people around you.
5. Social skills: rather than focusing on your own success first, try helping others to develop and shine.
